getting the whelping room ready

This week I have been spending time getting the whelping room ready. I guess you could say I am nesting too. Sadie came inside today with a very dirty nose. I think she is starting to nest herself. I never went and looked to see where she was digging. I did not want to see the hole :-)

Sadie is very fussy in what she eats now. She is very hungry but she only wants heart or tongue. Savannah and Heidi are very happy about this also. They feel they are in heaven getting all the good stuff everyday.

Sadie looks so uncomfortable but you should see her still run when a car drives in the driveway :-)

I took another picture of her she grew again !

The pups are really squirming now

I woke up this morning with Sadie laying beside me. She loves to climb in bed with me after Ed leaves for work in the morning.

I lay with my hand on her belly because I am always hoping for a bit of movement. Well was I rewarded !! They were squirming and I am sure wrestling in there :-) I did not want to get up but lay and feel the pups move around. It was such a nice feeling. Lets me know all is well and that we are getting close.

Oh and I squeezed a bit of milk from a nipple last night.

Sadie only has 10 more days to go !!

Here is a picture of Sadie a little over a month ago

Sadie October 19th

Today October 27 looking a bit bigger.
We have approx 10 days to go. She will grow a lot more between now and then. She is starting to get uncomfortable now. She certainly has an appetite! Her favorite things to eat now are tongue and heart. She is not as excited about chicken and Turkey :-)
This week I will work on getting the whelping room set up. My little cot goes in there too. I will be sleeping with her and the pups for the first 3 weeks and longer if any of them need me.
For those of you who are waiting for a pup please start saving your newspapers for me. I do prefer the bigger papers like the star or globe :-) No need to save the ad's though :-)

She sleeps alot too. Only 3 1/2 weeks left. This will go by so fast and before you know it the pups will be here.
I tried to take pictures of her today. She woudl not accomidate me and kept sitting down or following me when I wanted to take her picture.

For all who were waiting on pins and needles to know !!

Yes Sadie is pregnant !!!! We had her Ultrasounded today and she is for sure pregnant. I figured she was but wanted the conformation :-)

Now I wonder how many there are !! It is to hard to get an accurate count so after we saw 3 fetuses and knew for sure she was pregnant we never bothered to try counting.

Sadie has been acting like she is starving. So my little girl can eat with gusto. Tonight we celebrate with Trachea!!

Leonbergers are perfect !!

Ok as a breeder I should not say that . This past weekend we had a large tour through our farm. We were part of Durham Regions Gates Open - Savour Durham .
Gates open

We were giving tours of our Alpaca Farm. People walked through our fields and met our Alpacas and miniature donkeys. Plus of course our Leonbergers. The Leos were fantastic. I even had pictures sent to me of the dogs !! Not the Alpacas , not the donkeys the Leos lol.

They were perfect and let so many kids hug them and pet them. They were the official greeters that day. I knew the dogs were wonderful but this reinforced every wonderful thing I thought about them. To see more about Durham Gates open and Heronview Alpacas please visit our Alpaca website
